Ancient Olympics

Image
This week, LS2 has been learning about the Ancient Olympics that happened in the past, LS2 also showed their DLO's to the class to helps others understand the different facts and information that we used to build our DLO. Our group also created an screencastify to show the classroom as some of us were not feeling the best to speak in front of the classroom.  In my Inquiry Group Te-Raumati,Tyson, Moti and I worked collaboratively to share our ideas on what we should write down. We also used our searching skills to help us write down some interesting facts.  I really enjoyed doing this as I learnt a lot of new things about the Olympics that first started in 77bc. I also enjoyed and really liked putting images onto the DLO as it shows a lot more of detail about our learning.   Link to Screencastify  https://drive.google.com/file/ d/ 1D9UxgY1uXn107ksbbjGHoZ7HiKQUY 6r1/view   Link to DLO :  Anicent Olympics DLO

Winning isn’t  that important, winning yourself is what matters. A healthy mindset helps athletes to grow mentally and physically.  From losing comes winning, keeping calm in stressful situations motivation always helps. Happiness is the key to success if athletes stay happy and there time will come.

Matariki

LI: To strengthen our connections to Matariki.      Matariki is the Maori new year celebration. It takes places each year when the cluster of stars known as Matariki are seen in our skies. The new year is a time for new beginnings and is a time to embrace tradition. To strengthen our connections to Matariki we had a choice of research activities. I found out that Matariki comes around June and July and that next year there will be a public holiday for it. I enjoyed this because I got to learn more about the country that I live in.

The Maori creation story

Image
LI: To summaries the Maori story of creation.  For inquiry we are learning about Taonga of storytelling or the treasure of storytelling cultural stories that have been passed down through our ancestors.  We learnt about the maori creation story and we also  summarised the story. We used this summarizing template to summarize the video that we watched of the maori creation story. The video told us about the story of papatuanuku and ranginui in the darkness and how they separated and how their son Tawhirimatea sent mighty storms and rain to show his rage.  I really enjoyed this activity because I liked how we got to pick everything ourselves

Technological Practices - Toys

LI:  To use technological practices process to design a toy. For Mrs Fisi’iahi’s Inquiry lesson, we were focusing on the three last technological processes. They were: build, test and evaluate. We used the required materials in order to build the ATV rover. After this, we tested and compared each group’s rover to see which group was able to scramble across the floor the furthest. Evaluating our results was the last step.  I found this activity cool because I liked the challenge of defining the words in 25 words
